            Specialization

I have a specialization in the treatment of relationship difficulties in individuals with a history of physical or emotional trauma or neglect. Relationship difficulties are frequently the most devastating consequence of trauma. Many of my clients tell me that while they are successful at work or academics, they find themselves repeating painful relationship patterns with romantic partners, family, and friends.  Such relationship difficulties frequently take the form of  appearing "cold and withdrawn", fearing rejection and abandonment, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting, controlling behavior, infidelity, trouble sharing loving feeling, sexual difficulties, and anger outbursts. As relationships are such a central aspect of the human experience,  such patterns cause significant emotional pain and distress.

       Generalist Practice

I am a also "generalist practitioner". That means that I am able to treat most psychological difficulties experienced by adults and couples including anxiety, depression, work issues, and major mental illness. 

As you look at my treatment areas to the right of this page, you may find that it is challenging to define the specific issue for which you need help.  This is because life issues often occur in patterns that are not easily organized or categorized. Often several issues overlap.  An initial aspect of therapy will always include helping you find words to define your life difficulty.
